INFANT (6 wks. – 18 mos.)
Each infant is provided with his/her own crib. Play time is designed for each infant according to his/her level of development. Individual development is furthered through the use of sensory motor materials, gross motor activities and manipulative equipment. We recognize the importance of reading to a child, even at this early age. Thus, reading is also a part of our program. Most importantly, each infant receives much love and individual attention.
TODDLER (18 mos. – 3 yrs.)
Kiddie Korral’s structured educational programs begin at this age level. The staff begins teaching the alphabet, numbers, shapes, sizes and colors through the use of carpet games, toys, songs, etc. The staff also assists toddlers with potty training at this stage.
THREE - FIVE YEAR OLDS
Children in this age group attend pre-school either two or three half days per week, depending on their ages. While not in pre-school, these children spend their time in the General Activity Room. Group activities are organized throughout the day that include utilization of gross motor equipment, dramatic play materials, art activities, fine motor manipulative materials and sensory perceptual materials.
PRE-SCHOOL
Kiddie Korral provides pre-school for three year olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays (a.m. and p.m.) and for four and five year olds on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (a.m. and p.m.). Morning classes are from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. and afternoon classes are from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Each class is taught by a certified teacher who is assisted by an aide. Classes concentrate on skills children need to develop to be prepared for kindergarten. Classes begin in September and end in June. The highlight of the year is our evening pre-school graduation program, which is always well-attended by proud parents, families and friends.
Throughout the school year, our children participate in activities and projects that focus on reading and math readiness, language skills, social studies, science, music and art. We strive to develop both gross and fine motor skills. We also emphasize social skills (such as learning to share and decision-making), as well as physical skills (manipulation of small and large objects to develop eye-hand coordination) and much more. A Spanish teacher comes every week, and the older pre-school classes take monthly field trips to places such as the post office and the apple orchard. We also have monthly visits from a librarian and other special speakers.
SCHOOL-AGE (Children kindergarten and above)
We provide before and after school care for this age group. Children attending our after school program are provided with a healthy snack, followed by help with homework, supervised computer activities, games and crafts. Our summer program includes weekly age-appropriate field trips such as swimming, rollerskating, etc. The summer program concludes with a sleepover, where the children are rewarded for their good behavior.
SCHOOL-AGE TRANSPORTATION
Kiddie Korral vans provide transportation to and from the Sandusky school system and Sandusky parochial schools. Perkins bus transportation can be arranged for families who live within the area of the school system and attend our Perkins Avenue facility. Weekly schedules must be provided to the center and parents must sign permission slips. The center must be notified of any schedule changes in advance.
